Defending Your Business Against Fraud & Scams
Imagine: Rush hour at your business. A call comes in – pay $2,000 in 15 minutes, or your power’s off. It’s a scam, and steals thousands from Maine businesses every day. Can your business afford to lose thousands, and are you prepared for the recent uptick in international crime and fraud?
While many scams present as obvious, many are sophisticated and difficult to spot. How do you identify those currently taking advantage of other businesses? In this webinar, Maine SBDC Advisor Dan Umphrey, and Brandon McDonald at Northern Maine Development Commission aim to equip business owners with the knowledge they need to fight off common (and some less-common) scams, attacks, and spoof websites. Participants should expect to gain new knowledge on how to quickly identify fake websites or phone numbers and feel more confident in being able to notice the first signs of suspicious activity.
Participants will:
- Learn how to verify email addresses and callers.
- Go through the top 5 most common scams impacting Maine’s businesses.
- Define what legal recourse they have in the event of fraud, and learn who to report fraud to.
- Research if your business data, emails, or passwords have been compromised.
- Determine if training is necessary to help your employees keep your business secure.
